June 8th, 1921 - April 23rd, 2010

Sad Loss in the West Broadway Community –
Lorne "Ace" Atkinson Dies at 88

Lorne passed away peacefully at home Friday morning. He is survived by his wife Evie, son Dan (Val), daughter Jan (George) and grandchildren Brian, Leanne and Shay. Ace was born in Vancouver. As a teen he began cycle racing under the guidance of his father, Charlie.

He was ranked among the top Canadian cycling athletes of his era (Olympic Games 1948, British Empire Games 1954) and continued to ride aggressively well into his 70's. Lorne's cycling legacy is featured at the BC Sports Hall of Fame. Ace owned and operated Vancouver's Ace Cycles for over 60 years. Competitive and casual bike riders sought his knowledge which was given freely often with sincere, fatherly advice.

A true and proud son of Vancouver he will be deeply missed by his family, his friends and the cycling community. A Celebration of Life will be held in the Stanley Park Pavilion, May 16th at 1:00pm. Bicycle parking will be provided. In lieu of flowers please donate to the B.C. Sports Hall of Fame.
