Will more construction for a proposed Rapid Transit Line cause massive disruption everywhere we go?

Rapid Transit Platform

  1. The West Broadway Business Association demands discussions with the relevant officials, including Translink and the Provincial Government to work towards implementing a Business Financial Compensation Plan that must be included in the transportation plan for the businesses that will be affected by the disruption caused by the rapid transit construction along the proposed UBC line on the West Broadway Corridor from Cambie Street to Alma Street, and beyond.

New sidewalks, streets and, richly designed medallions!

Streets & Medallions

As the sidewalk repairs come to an end, the medallions are now being inserted. Approximately a dozen of the forty medallions are now in place, and the remainder will be set within the next several weeks.

Landscaping of small shrubbery and trees has largely been accomplished. Once Spring brings back the warmth, flowers and the remainder of any plantings will be introduced.

A plaque at the Broadway and Bayswater mini park will list all donors, and is expected to be installed shortly.

A very big thank you to our artists: Kelly and Susan Point, Alexandra Dikeakos, and to Evie Katevatis of Century Monument for the dedication monument to be installed.

Community Policing is an essential element for safety, security and peace of mind.

Community Policing Now a reality!

After much work, Cst. John Braithwaite of the Vancouver Police Department has been successful in reopening a Community Policing Centre at 1687 West Broadway, at the corner of Pine St.

A "welcome to the community day" will be held Saturday, June 13 allowing local residents and merchants an occasion to visit the office and, a chance speak with our community's Neighbourhood Police Constable. It will also be a volunteer recruiting opportunity for those wishing to help with crime prevention programs and services.

Among a group of interested citizens, board members from the WBBA remained in direct contact with the Constable, lending a helping hand wherever needed to make this reopening possible. Merchants have also kindly donated a variety of equipment and furniture for use in the community policing office.

Emphasis over the next few months will be recruitment of volunteers and, the implimentation of a variety of programs and services such as foot, bike and pooch patrols, community outreach and crime prevention education for child/youth/seniors. Other important programs in use at other CPCs, such as Business Watch, Anti-Graffiti, Speedwatch and, Bike Roadeos will be considered as we grow in volunteer staffing.

For more information, or to offer your help, you can contact Cst. John Braithwaite at 604-717-3349, Pin 2429.

The new colour is... black.

Lamppost Painting

The City has approved the new paint colour: black. Work will hopefully begin shortly, and we are waiting for confirmation that this will occur before Greek Day (June 21).

Along with a delay dependant on weather, there was a hold until the City and contractor agreed on the last details.
