Our Objectives

The West Broadway Business Association was formed in 2008 to speak in one clear voice for business owners at the Translink table.

And while that is the main reason for forming the West Broadway Business Association, other concerns include establishing a new Community Policing Centre, finishing the street improvements with decorative medallions, painting street lamp posts, graffiti, promotions like Greek Days and the window decorating contest for Christmas.

WBBA Annual General Meeting

The West Broadway Business Association Society held its second AGM on February 19, 2010, 6 to 8 pm, at the Kitsilano Community Centre in Snowy's Lounge. This will be a good opportunity for new and long-time merchants to take an active interest and support in the Society.

For more info regarding the presentation of the Annual General Meeting, a copy of the complete AGM presentation package is available upon request.

Our History

West Broadway Businesses have always been a strong organized group. In the '70s, the businesses joined together to redevelop a large portion of West Broadway. The sidewalks were re-done using interlocking bricks and sidewalk lighting. Of special note, the West Broadway merchants were pioneers in Vancouver by having the first disability access installed on sidewalks for street corners. They were also involved in planting trees along our commercial streets.

Our area is the home of the Greek community, well filled with Greek stores and restaurants. The Greek culture adds character to the area and in '80s the Greek Community, with the support of the businesses, hosted the first of many Greek Days.

By the end of the '90s, many of the merchants wanted to group together in a more official all-encompassing capacity. Members of the community formed a committee to introduce a business improvement association. However, after going through the long process, a majority support was not successful. Those from the West Broadway group who were involved in the BIA efforts continued thereafter to meet monthly with support from the Kitsilano Chamber of Commerce.

Among the work done by the West Broadway Businees Committee, there were social gatherings held, newsletters sent out and a major project was implemented with the City of Vancouver Engineering to have all our streets and sidewalks re-done at no cost to the businesses.

Recent efforts have led to the registration of our organization as a non-profit society. The West Broadway Business Association will continue to work to make West Broadway a vibrant business area for people who work and shop in it.
